Bilingual Junior Client/Server Software Developer

This role involves the following activities:

• Design, develop, integrate, test, transition to production, and maintain client/server applications • Provide consultation with the Systems Architect and Systems Analyst • Provide production support and application monitoring and tuning • Participate in project planning • Provide input into the evolution of the software development environment (SDE) and methods

This role also involves these additional specific activities:

• Contribute to the elimination of problems through permanent fixes including the identification of solutions, scoping the work, and executing the changes • Provide first on call and back up support on a rotating basis • Trouble shoot application problems, maintain an inventory of expertise for identified problems • Complete development assignments as assigned through your team leader and negotiated with project teams • Create and/or update software development best practices • Ensure services, components, and applications are reused by yourself and others • Liaise and provide consulting support for applications to project teams

Qualifications:

• Bilingual: Fluent in both English and French (mandatory) • Degree in related discipline (computer science) or equivalent combination of training and experience • Fully knowledgeable of software design methodologies and documentation tools • Demonstrated working knowledge of Software Requirements Analysis and Design principles such as object-oriented development and UML • Experience with quality assurance and testing of purchased applications • Proficient with Microsoft Visual Basic application development environment and tools (VB 3/5/6) • Fully knowledgeable of, and able to apply one or more of the following: HTML, MS Access 2 or higher, XP/W2K/NT4, Office 97/XP, Remote connection PC Support tools such as Dameware or Remote Access piece of LANDesk, SourceSafe, MS Installer and/or Install Shield • Knowledge and experience with automated software distribution and packaging of applications in a distributed environment • Fully capable of analysis and problem solving, teamwork, planning and organizing your own work, written and verbal communication in a multi-site environment, initiative, practical team oriented leadership skills and attention to detail • Knowledge and experience with one/more of the following is an asset: VB.NET development environment; J2EE; experience with ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) Incident Management, Problem management, Change Management, and Transition to Production processes; experience with Remedy (or similar) problem tracking system, and Sybase Transact/SQL experience • Experience supporting or developing individual life insurance systems an asset • Mainframe COBOL development skills an asset
