Software Engineer
* Solid structured programming experience in C/C++ and/or Java
* Experience with open source software
* Familiarity with Linux programming, junior system administration skills, and scripting
* A deep and relevant understanding of the Internet, its protocols, and typical building blocks services (web servers, search servers, application servers, etc.)
* A demonstrated ability to find, embrace, and extend new technology for the right job
* A minimum of five years of software engineering experience preferably working on Internet systems
* B.S. in Computer Science (M.S. preferred); or commensurate work experience.
* Experience with Cassandra and/or other NoSQL solutions
* The ability to architect a database schema, write SQL, and make performance improvements
* Operational ownership of services handling thousands of requests per second
* Interest and/or experience with search engine development and/or Lucene (or Solr!) -- and topics involving relevancy scoring, horizontal scalability, data source integration, or even latent semantic indexing
* Experience with video trans-coding (bitrates, keyframes, codecs, etc!)
* Familiarity with Java Application Servers and the ability to troubleshoot live website applications and tune performance
* Understanding of Apache Web Servers, its internals and the desire to write Apache modules
* Analytical skills in profiling and website traffic segmentation
* Other valuable areas of knowledge and experience: high performance programming, N-tier applications, multi-threaded programming, gcc, Subversion, RPM, Git, extreme debugging, content distribution networks, proper HTTP caching proxy rules, Wireshark, Valgrind and gdb, IPC, LDAP, XML, JSON, etc!
