(Continued from previous question...)

Installing Apple Mac OS X 10.4.5 on a Compatible PC

Boot into Windows XP.
Partition your drive with Partion Magic, make sure the new partition is not part of the 'extended' partion and it creates a logical drive.

Reboot the PC with the OS X DVD in the DVDROM drive.
There will be a screen with the Apple logo and a spinning circle below.
The screen will eventually turn blue, and the cursor might be a spinning rainbow beachball.
Note that the process might be slow, since it's all running on a DVD.
Next you'll see the intro screen for installation.
Eventually you'll get to "Choose a partition to install OS X on", but you won't find any.
Go to the top of the screen, and find "Disk Utilities" via the menu.
Select your partition at the left.
At the right there's an "Erase" button.
Make sure the partition is formatted to "Mac OS Journalled".
For the name it could be something like "OSX86".
Click on the Erase button and press yes to confirm.
Later on you'll see an option near the bottom left to customize.
There you can remove the printer drivers and languages you don't need (that takes up A LOT of space).
You should select the right patches/updates for you (THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS), if they're not right OS X won't work for you, but luckily there are descriptions if needed.
It should install next, when it's done your computer will reboot and it will boot into XP.

To dual boot you need to download a file called "chain0" and you need to edit boot.ini (which is located in C:\).
chain0 is available at:
Place chain0 in C:\ even if it's not your system drive.
Open boot.ini and remove "/noexecute=optin /fastdetect"
Also add 'C:\chain0="Apple Mac OS X 10.4.x"' below Windows XP.
Here's what mine looks like:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP"
C:\chain0="Apple Mac OS X 10.4.5"

Save your file and reboot.
There are many other ways to dual boot, but I've found this to be the easiest.
Choose Apple Mac OSX 10.4.x and hope that OS X works!
